Testing Standard

A number of factors are driving the evolution of structured cabling standards. These include:

  • New high-speed network
          standards such as Gigabit
          Ethernet
  • The requirements for additional measurements such as
propagation delay skew, return loss, power sum near end
crosstalk (PSNEXT) and equal level far end crosstalk (ELFEXT)
  • Improvements in cable and component design
  • Recognition of performance differences between unshielded,
screened and shielded/screened  twisted pair cabling designs
  • Regional concerns about electromagnetic radiation effects on
data as well as the environment
  • The desire for harmonization in link definitions and cabling
performance requirements in North  America, Europe, and other
           markets
